One thing first
This spread is not for investment decisions. Do not ask the cards what to buy, when to sell, or whether to take on a mortgage. Decisions with money on the line belong to spreadsheets and qualified people, not to a deck.
What this layout is for is looking at your own habits around money. Self-review, not financial advice. Keep to that line and it earns its place.
What this spread does
Five cards on the movement of money. The key is that positions 2 and 3 split what comes in from where it leaks.
When people worry about money they focus almost entirely on earnings. But the reason the balance never grows is more often on the outgoing side โ and usually not in the large expenses. It is the small holes you have stopped noticing. Hence the separate seat.
How to read it
Card 1 is a relationship, not an amount. It says how you are currently holding money. Swords here suggests you are being worn down by thinking about it. Pentacles suggests a practical management phase. Cups suggests feeling is driving the spending.
Card 3 is the heart of this spread. Read it less as โwhat do I spend onโ and more as โwhat mood am I in when I spend.โ Cups might point at spending when your mood dips. Wands might point at starting things impulsively and paying to clean them up.
Card 4 is advice. Take the action the card is performing. Temperance says blend and moderate. The Hermit says withdraw and sort it out alone for a while.
Card 5 is the default outcome if you do not change card 4. If you dislike it, that is precisely the argument for acting on card 4.
How not to use it
Asking โwhen will money come inโ and redrawing until a nice card appears. That is not divination, it is reassurance โ and reassurance does not move a balance.
Instead, hold on to cards 3 and 4 and actually change one thing this month. That is the only use this spread has.
